Listen On

Can you believe it? I have officially published 50 episode and I am so thrilled you are here celebrating with us. Today, I'm answering your questions that all seem to have a similar pattern - topics of work-life balance, negotiating as a woman, and being heard as a professional working woman. I share details about my own personal struggles that I know you can relate to! Tune in to get all the details.

Question #1: Omg - you do so much! You have 3 kids, you work, you seem to be doing so many things. Are you superwoman?

We talk about work-life balance and how I get it all done. First, outsource everything that doesn't require my specific high decision making capacity. Second, follow the 80/20 Rule - Paretto's Principle. Become laser focused on the 20% of your actions that are yielding 80% of your results and eliminate the remainder. I go deep on this rule in Episode 17.

Question #2: I feel talked over at meetings by my male colleagues and it’s so frustrating. I don’t think I can ever advance in my department if my ideas aren’t heard.

Here are 2 ways to help mitigate this from happening.

  1. Amplification - the concept of another woman in the room repeating your comment and crediting you as a source, helps prevent others from taking credit.
  2. Find an upstander - that's the opposite of a bystander who would just casually observe while something unfolds in front of them.  An up stander will champion you and help you get heard.

Question #3: I feel exhausted after work. I can’t even imagine work-life balance. I am just finished residency and don’t even know where to begin.

The importance of finding time for rest and rejuvenation cannot be overstated. And, it can start small - with just 5 minutes or 10 minutes a day.  Something you can control to build some recovery into your day

Question #4: I am interested ASCs and buying in, haven’t seen many resources on this and I’m sure more men are offered these opportunities ore than women

What is at the heart of this question - is how to negotiate as a woman. How do you show your worth and what you bring to the table without turning people off. Practicing a collaborative approach with facts as to how your participation would improve the business and community at large is a first step.
