A new JAMA Pediatrics study followed thousands of kids from 4th through 12th grade. The findings? The same rule doesn’t work for every age. Girls and boys look different. And “how many minutes” turns out to be the least useful question you can ask.

My daughter came to me with this study ready to make her case for Instagram. She wasn’t wrong. But she wasn’t entirely right either. The nuance between those two things is what every parent of a tween or teen needs to understand.
