Work-Life Imbalance
Listen On
Recently, a well known consultant in my field made some troubling comments about female ophthalmologists. Though, I do believe they were unintentional, he insinuated that women's desire for work-life balance leads them to work part time and therefore causes issues in succession planning for retiring ophthalmologists.
To address these comments, I invited Dr. Ruth Williams, on to the show. We discussed how entry of women into fields like medicine over the past 30 years has been a gift to the men, by bringing to the forefront discussions of work-life balance.
She looked back on her 30 year career as President of Wheaton Eye Clinic, former President of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and how she navigated it all as a wife and a mother.
